Executive Leadership · Writing · Research

Laszlo Cser

The work that changes a leader is rarely the work the role rewards.

I work with senior leaders and executive teams on judgement under pressure — the capacity that decides outcomes when the stakes are highest — through consulting, private developmental work, books, and research.

Executive Judgement Under Pressure

Why capable leaders and teams lose access to their best thinking when the stakes, uncertainty and exposure rise — and how it can be recovered. A concise paper on the foundation beneath both routes of my work, and the research it draws on.

  • What executive judgement is, and how pressure erodes it
  • Two routes into the work — for organisations, and for individual leaders
  • Grounded in established research. No grand claims.

The paper downloads straight away, and I’ll send a copy to your inbox with occasional notes on the work. No noise; unsubscribe anytime.

About

A career spent on the inner work of leadership.

For twenty-seven years I have worked in human resources and leadership development — twenty-two of them in senior corporate HR across multinational organisations in EMEA, alongside interim executive roles and country- and regional-level HR directorships. I have built HR functions, leadership teams, and organisations; I have led through rapid scaling, and through reduction and re-orientation when that was what the moment asked for. In 2026 I founded Vantaris Consulting to concentrate on the work I had come to value most.

My approach grew from an unusual pairing: classical music training at Royal Holloway, University of London, and graduate study in HR management and development at the University of Manchester — analytical rigour and creative depth, held together. Over time I became convinced that leadership rarely changes through tips, techniques, or five-step systems. It changes through the slower integration of self-knowledge with strategic capability.

That conviction is the foundation of the Alchemy of Leadership — the framework behind my consulting, my programmes, my books, and my research. It integrates four scholarly traditions — Jungian depth psychology, Adlerian individual psychology, complexity science, and affective neuroscience — and is organised around five elements, four archetypes, and the old alchemical stages of transformation, from nigredo to coagula.

I write as much as I consult: books and essays on leadership and character, a scholarly monograph and a peer-reviewed article series, and — away from the leadership work — a first novel. I am British-Hungarian, based in Budapest, working in both English and Hungarian, and drawn in my own time to medieval and jazz music, to literature, and to ancient history.

The most powerful leadership development happens not by adding more skills, but by integrating the wisdom already present in the psyche with strategic capability.
